I have found value in SO many things from this mentorship experience, but especially in the process of creating templates and systems that can be used to plan for future releases and cultivate the “art” of artistry in general. The homework assignments were practical and the resulting products can be used in nearly every aspect of independent artistry: identifying sound and message, songwriting from the artist's perspective, branding, ownership agreements, the release process, royalties, and building a team.

I think learning the business side of songwriting was extremely helpful for me! I would say most of the people I know who have said that their songwriters aren't signed up in a PRO, or have any idea what a split sheet is or how to log a song into your catalogue. Lots of things from the business side that will be extremely helpful!

I would say having personalized office hours for one-on-one conversations was particularly meaningful for me. Getting some feedback and clarification specifically tailored to my own needs is what I found to be most helpful. As an honorable mention, getting to co-write with other writers who were a bit farther along than me was also valuable for both leveling up and validating the skills I already had.
